Solomon Islands Immersion Experience
Marist College has developed a close relationship with St Dominic’s Rural Training College at Vanga Point in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands. During the Easter holidays, six of our Year 11 students visited Vanga to learn about the local culture and to live among the local people.
During the Easter holidays, two staff members accompanied six Year 11 students on our Marist Immersion Program to the Solomon Islands.
For the past six years, Marist College has developed a close relationship with St Dominic’s Rural Training College at Vanga Point in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands. It is a school for 150 young men aged 15-25 who board at the school and receive a two-year rural training certificate, equipping them to return to their local villages and provide for their community by setting up sustainable agricultural projects. Marist has sent 30 students and 8 staff to Vanga during this time, to learn about the local culture and to live among the Solomon Islanders, experiencing day-to-day life.

Our six students were all terrific ambassadors for Marist and are to be congratulated for the way they wholeheartedly entered into the 12-day program.
What our Immersion Group experienced will stay with us for a lifetime. The ease with which our boys made friends with the students at Vanga, the welcome and hospitality they offered us, which we all quickly identified as typically Marist, will remain for years to come. During the coming
newsletters, our students will share their reflections on the Solomon Islands and also provide images which capture some of their special moments there. Today we present some of these images.
