Employment at Marist College Canberra
Why Marist?
“Another sparkling winter morning in Canberra – another workday. I have left my home to arrive at another place I belong. I hear the familiar sound of a leaf blower and acknowledge the friendly wave of my facilities team colleague who wields it.
I know the day ahead will be full. I have many things to do; purposeful, necessary and worth my time. This day will require me to think, act and use my talents. I will be ready to multi-task and be responsive to the whatever the day brings.
The people I work with are a joy to me. We have all chosen to work at Marist. Some have left and come back. I know we share a common purpose for being here, beyond the necessity of working. Simply, to demonstrate and educate. Demonstrate our craft and our values. Educate with accuracy and effect. To contribute to our community and grow these young men. With a strong mind and gentle heart. To strive to be a Champagnat of today.”

Employee Value (Proposition)
“We are a Catholic school in the tradition of St Marcellin Champagnat that strives to make Jesus known and loved through forming young men of strong minds and gentle hearts.” - Marist College Mission Statement
Our staff are so important. It is the staff who create today’s experience of ‘going to school’ for our students. Along with the physical resources of the College, it is our human resources that form the reason why parents choose a Marist College Canberra education for their sons.
Our Marist foundations lay in the teachings of St Marcellin Champagnat, who challenges us to ‘love them all, and love them equally’. This premise, along with a rich and sustaining Marist Spirituality, forms a unique platform for our staff to build and continue their careers upon.
Our Marist staff are selected because they are excellent and capable professionals who demonstrate the personal qualities that we want to role model to our students. In return, we offer our staff excellent resources and support, professional growth, and opportunities.
At the beginning of staff meetings, we pledge to ‘stand on the shoulders of those who came before us… and strive to be Champagnats of today.’ There have been many excellent and wonderful teachers and support staff in the history of this college, who have been formative in the education and pastoral development of thousands of students. Many of these students return as parents and a good number as staff. We have a thriving Old Boys community, and the comradery and friendship of former students is quite extraordinary. Our caring Marist Community is indeed connected and thriving.

From Our Team
Living in Canberra
There’s no place quite like Canberra. Those of us who’ve called it home for a while can attest to its unique blend of natural beauty, culture, and community. The city’s distinct seasons - from warm, golden summers to crisp, frosty winters - each bring their own charm and opportunities to explore. Beyond the weather, Canberra offers an exceptional quality of life, with short commutes, stunning outdoor spaces, a thriving food and arts scene, and a welcoming community that makes it easy to feel at home.
Since 1968, Marist Canberra has been a part of and had its footprints on the land of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. As a College, we acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we stand. We pay our respects to them and for their care of the land. May we walk gently and respectfully upon the land. We are, as Marists, an inclusive and welcoming community. We acknowledge that all are created in the image of our loving God and called to live our lives glorifying the Lord. People of all faiths, genders, sexualities, and cultures are therefore welcome and respected equally in the Marist Catholic community.
