Overview of Tier 2 and 3 Intervention programs

Did you know people can only hold between five and nine items in their working memory?

As soon as the next item arrives, one drops out if it hasn’t already been committed to long-term memory.

Factors like stress, anxiety and learning difficulties can make this process more challenging.

As part of our Response to Intervention model of support, our team runs some Tier 2 and 3 Intervention Programs in ELS.

The main aim of these programs is to reduce pressure on the working memory of students and to make more efficient use of the cognitive load. Our programs allow students to gain automaticity in basic skills to free up thinking space to learn more.

Some of these programs are:

  • MultiLit (short for Making up for lost time in Literacy) - is a suite of programs aimed at improving decoding and fluency in reading. We run three programs which are then backed up by our Reading Club and Reinforced Reading program.
  • MacquLit – a small group phonics-based decoding and fluency program run nine days a fortnight mainly with Year 4 students at present.
  • Reading Tutor Program – a one-to-one decoding and fluency program run six times a fortnight with students from Years 4-8.
  • Word Attack Extension - a one-to-one decoding and fluency program run six times a fortnight with students mainly from Year 6 at present.
  • Quicksmart - a small group program based on building speed, accuracy and understanding of mathematical skills. Run three times a week.

If you feel your son requires support in these areas or if you would like more information, please contact us via email.
