The College is delighted to announce the name of the new Science and Performing Arts building. After a considerable process, the community were very clear with the name that was preferred.

Veritas

Veritas is Latin for Truth. As Catholics, the name Veritas signifies the source of all truth, God, and his call for his followers to live in the truth.

In Jesus Christ, the whole of God's truth has been made manifest. "Full of grace and truth," he came as the "light of the world," he is the Truth. "Whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness." The disciple of Jesus continues in his word so as to know "the truth [that] will make you free" and that sanctifies. To follow Jesus is to live in "the Spirit of truth," whom the Father sends in his name and who leads "into all the truth." To his disciples Jesus teaches the unconditional love of truth: "Let what you say be simply 'Yes or No.'"(Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2466-2467)

The Catholic concept of “Truth” transcends living virtuously. Truth means living as disciples of Christ and seeking God. As a name, the Veritas nomenclature will provide a constant reminder for the Marist College community to live our lives in the truth of God. It serves as inspiration in our endeavours in performing arts and science, seeking God in creativity, logic, curiosity, and education.

A particular thanks to Isaac Manen (Year 8) and Cian George (Year 9) who both nominated the name “Veritas” as part of the competition.
