25th anniversary of the Canonisation of Saint Marcellin Champagnat
Marists recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Canonisation of Saint Marcellin Champagnat, founder of the Marist Brothers and patron saint of Marist College Canberra. The anniversary calls us to reflect on Marcellin’s example of following Jesus in the Way of Mary and leads us to consider what it means to be a Champagnat of today. Marcellin was a prayerful person who noticed the needs of his time and responded with passion for God and compassion for people. "Today, the spirit that was so active in our founder, longs to live and breathe in you and me.” (Making Jesus Christ Known and Loved: Marist apostolic life today p42, 6 June 2006.)
