Electives Day
Both Year 9 Drama and Year 9 Concert Band students recently participated in Electives Day as part of their Footsteps program.
The Year 9 concert band visited Groove Warehouse, a local Canberra drum and percussion studio, to participate in two workshops: Drum Kit, and African Drumming. The students learnt new skills on new instruments while also learning about the composition and sound of a wide range of percussion instruments. Later in the day the students participated in an Improvisation workshop run by Old Boy and current ANU School of Music student, Jeremy Firth.

The Year 9 Drama class enjoyed intensive workshops based on their topic, Australian Gothic Theatre and were also introduced to the first steps in creating an engaging Duologue Performance. These projects will form the basis of their Drama performances as part of the 2023 Marist College Spring Theatre Festival, to take place in Term 4. After lunch students were lucky enough to enjoy a private screening of Barbie at Hoyts Woden. Walking back to Marist after the film, students engaged in passionate, interesting and mature conversation about the film, their response to it and the process of adaptation.
