Rest in peace Andy Lofthouse

Rest in peace Andy Lofthouse

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that Andrew Lofthouse (Andy) passed away on Sunday 11 May 2025.

As many of you know, Andy had been unwell over the past few months and the sudden deterioration in his health came as a shock.

Andy was a kind, loving and passionate teacher who held a deep affection for the College. He began working here in 1996 and retired at the end of 2022. Throughout his time with us, he served with great dedication as Dean of Conway House and Head of TAS. He was much loved by the boys, highly respected by his colleagues, a huge support to parents and countless former students and families would have known him as a friend.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Kate during this sad and difficult time. Kate has been an amazing tower of strength these past few days and weeks.

We are grateful to Fr Peter Day, who visited and prayed with Andy and Kate over the weekend. Fr Peter will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving for Andy and we will share further details as soon as they are available.

We spoke with Kate’s Home Group on Monday and gathered senior boys from Conway House to share this news and support them.

I would like to express heartfelt thanks to Peter O’Callaghan, Darren Leech and Dixon English for the consistent and compassionate support they have provided to both Andy and Kate over the past 12 months.

May we continue to surround Kate with our love and prayers and may we take comfort in knowing Andy’s life touched so many within our College community.

May eternal light shine upon him.

Matthew Hutchison

Since 1968, Marist Canberra has been a part of and had its footprints on the land of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. As a College, we acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we stand. We pay our respects to them and for their care of the land. May we walk gently and respectfully upon the land. We are, as Marists, an inclusive and welcoming community. We acknowledge that all are created in the image of our loving God and called to live our lives glorifying the Lord. People of all faiths, genders, sexualities, and cultures are therefore welcome and respected equally in the Marist Catholic community.
