Food and Language Tour of Italy 2023

Food and Language Tour of Italy 2023

After a long hiatus it was great to lead 36 students and 5 staff on the Food and Language Tour of Italy during the term break. Not only did the boys spend valuable time in their learning areas focusing on improving their culinary and language skills but also spent time with each other as a combined group taking in all that Italy offers. The country has such a rich history, culture and way of life that has to be seen firsthand to truly understand what makes this country so special. A huge thanks to staff members Joshua-James Smith, John O’Kane, Erinn Elliott and Carmelina Paragalli for their work in the lead up and during this trip.

Below are some reflections from students who participated in the 2023 Food and Language Tour:

“The Lazio game was unlike anything I've ever experienced. Truly a once in a lifetime trip”. - Angus

“Italy was an amazing experience, I enjoyed immersing in culture, eating all the time and seeing some of the most famous landmarks in the world. There are so many highlights from this trip that I will never forget.” - Emerson

”My favourite part of the trip was going to Orvieto and visting Casale Polegri" - Wylie

"This was my first time overseas and definitely one I will never forget, learning about Italy's culture and history, and learning about myself are all things I will cherish forever." - Oscar

"The best part of the tour was easily the cooking school in Orvieto with Chef Lorenzo and his team."  - Rohan

“The Italian tour was an incredible experience. Every city was rich in history and I was lucky enough to learn about it and to be able to immerse myself in the Italian culture and make memories with my best mates and the new mates I made on the trip. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I will cherish for the rest of my life.” - Xavier. To read more from Xavier, please click here.

"The best part about the trip was going to the soccer game and seeing how much passion and love the fans have for their teams. The team eagle which flew around after the game, the flags, the flairs, it was all an unreal experience." - Finn

"Orvieto was the best part of the tour with the free time and cooking school with chef Lorenzo. Seeing the beauty of Italy on the trip was an amazing experience, being able to meet new people, learn Italian, and explore the food and culture of Italy will be memories I will cherish forever." - Aidan

Since 1968, Marist Canberra has been a part of and had its footprints on the land of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. As a College, we acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we stand. We pay our respects to them and for their care of the land. May we walk gently and respectfully upon the land. We are, as Marists, an inclusive and welcoming community. We acknowledge that all are created in the image of our loving God and called to live our lives glorifying the Lord. People of all faiths, genders, sexualities, and cultures are therefore welcome and respected equally in the Marist Catholic community.
