From the Head of Junior School

From the Head of Junior School

Dear Junior School families

At halfway through Term One, we are certainly enjoying lots of special events in the Junior School.

Last week, we held our Term One Class Captains Badge Assembly. Congratulations to all of our Term One Class Captains that received their badges last week. It was wonderful to welcome our College Captain John Brennan to this Assembly. John shared his memories of being a Junior School boy and reminded our new class captains that you need to lead from the front, from the middle and from the back at times, depending on the situation.

Congratulations to the following boys who have made our Junior School Swim team that will compete at the upcoming South Weston Swimming Carnival. We know you will all make us proud with your efforts on the day:

George Salter, Michael Ness, Harry Whitton, Felix Sinisgalli, Liam Apps, Jonah Prail, Christian Honan, Tom Motley, Harry Dawn, Harry Bozic, Lachlan Stubing, Tom Farah, Cooper Kebblewhite, Bronik Vincenc, Robert Ness, Xavier Wild, Reece Lloyd, Henry Nihill, Ethan Cooke, and Ashton Nguyen.

The Junior School held their annual Athletics Carnival today. Thank you to our Sports Coordinator, Mr Keogh, for organising the day.

Events

Year 5 Camp – Week 7

Thank you to Miss Taglieri and Mrs Vercoe who have been busily preparing for our upcoming Year 5 Camp in Week 7. The boys and their teachers are looking forward to their three days in Jindabyne at the Sport and Recreation Centre.

Year 5 RFS Incursion

Year 5 boys enjoyed a visit from the Rural Fire Service last week to build their knowledge of bushfires and how we can stop them. Thank you to Mr Donovan who coordinated the incursion to enrich the boys learning in their knowledge-rich Science unit this term.

College Open Evening

You may have noticed on our College Calendar that we will not be having an ‘Open Day’ this year as we have had in past years. We will instead be hosting an ‘Open Evening’ on Friday 26 March 2021 from 4.30pm – 7.00pm. If you know of families who are interested in the College and are considering putting in an application for their son for 2022, we ask that you let them know the date of our ‘Open Evening’ and encourage them to register to attend via the College website.

Junior School Green Week

With the upcoming Canberra Day long weekend, the Junior School will be having their ‘Green Week’ to allow for a week to stop, breathe, and enjoy a week of no homework tasks. As we are in the season of Lent, boys in Years 4-6 may like to find a way that they could ‘give’ their time to the family and complete a few additional jobs around the house.

Lenten Appeal

Mr McMahon launched our Junior School Lenten Appeal activities at last week’s assembly. This Friday, boys are able to dress in their favourite ‘Team clothing’ for ‘Support your Team Day’. The boys are asked to donate a gold coin for the Appeal and to remember to wear their sneakers as Friday is still a sports day.

  • Week 5 – Support Your Team Day
  • Week 6 – Crazy Hair Day
  • Week 7 – Silly Sock Day
  • Week 8 – Happy Hat Day

Since 1968, Marist Canberra has been a part of and had its footprints on the land of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. As a College, we acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we stand. We pay our respects to them and for their care of the land. May we walk gently and respectfully upon the land. We are, as Marists, an inclusive and welcoming community. We acknowledge that all are created in the image of our loving God and called to live our lives glorifying the Lord. People of all faiths, genders, sexualities, and cultures are therefore welcome and respected equally in the Marist Catholic community.
