National Skills Week

National Skills Week

Last week was National Skills Week and the 2023 theme “What are you looking for?” focused on the idea of matching what people are looking for in a career and their life to skills training through Vocational Education. Skills Week is also about employers and industries showcasing what they are looking for in their team and the role that VET has in this space.

At Marist we have 164 students enrolled in VET qualifications working towards certificates in Furniture Making, Hospitality, and Construction Pathways. In 2024 we will be adding a Certificate III in Business to our VET offerings which will be a valuable course for anyone interested in working in the business sphere but also for those looking at a pathway that would lead to owning and operating a business in the future.

We also have 27 students currently completing an ASBA (Australian School Based Apprenticeship) at Marist. These boys are not only completing VET studies but are also working in industries such as Plumbing, Electrical, Hospitality, Retail, Electrotechnology, Horticulture and Carpentry.

Since 1968, Marist Canberra has been a part of and had its footprints on the land of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. As a College, we acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we stand. We pay our respects to them and for their care of the land. May we walk gently and respectfully upon the land. We are, as Marists, an inclusive and welcoming community. We acknowledge that all are created in the image of our loving God and called to live our lives glorifying the Lord. People of all faiths, genders, sexualities, and cultures are therefore welcome and respected equally in the Marist Catholic community.
