Vinnies Night Patrol

Since the beginning of the term, twelve of our Year 12 boys, alongside participating Marist staff, have been actively engaging with the Canberra community through the Marist Night Patrol. This initiative provides a unique opportunity for our students to walk alongside and support those experiencing hardship, offering friendship, compassion, and a listening ear to the companions they meet on the streets at night.
For these young men, the experience has been more than just an act of service—it has reshaped their understanding of what it truly means to give. Through meaningful conversations and genuine connections, students have come to appreciate that service is not just about "doing good quietly," but also about recognising the dignity and stories of those they encounter. It is through these interactions that they have gained a deeper awareness of the local community’s needs and an understanding of the small yet significant ways they can make a difference.
At Marist College, service is a cornerstone of our ethos, challenging students to extend themselves beyond their own lives and put their faith into action. Initiatives like the Marist Night Patrol cultivate leadership, social responsibility, and life skills, shaping our students to become compassionate individuals who live out the call to be good Christians and responsible citizens. As they engage with and support those in need, especially the marginalised, they develop a stronger sense of empathy and a commitment to justice.
For students who are still interested in being part of this meaningful initiative, it is not too late to get involved. If you would like to learn more about how you can participate in the Marist Night Patrol and make a difference, please reach out to Mr. Ahearne or myself.
Let us continue to embody the Marist spirit of service and solidarity in our community.
