Year 11 Photography excursion

On Tuesday 25 March, Year 11 Photography students visited the 20 Years of Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year and Fit to Print exhibitions in Canberra. The excursion offered students firsthand insight into composition techniques, pictorialism, and the evolution of photographic styles through powerful visual storytelling.
The Year 11 Photography class had the wonderful opportunity to visit the National Library’s Fit to Print exhibition. It was fascinating to explore the collection of beautifully captured photographs selected by Mike Bowers. The staff that showed us around the library were incredibly welcoming and informative. They provided us with the opportunity to learn how to access the Library’s catalogue online. The visit gave our class valuable insights into the history of photography and its evolution over the years, helping us with future studies. - Miles Baseby
On the photography excursion, one of the places we visited was the National Library. There, we were toured around the Fit to Print exhibition, which highlighted photojournalism throughout the early 1900s. This was very inspirational as it showed us how the world, particularly Australia, used to function and how it was developed. - Alex Holt
The Australia, New Zealand, Antartica and New Guinea (ANZANG) nature and landscape photographer exhibition at the National archives of Australia, showed just how many different styles and techniques are used in nature and landscape photography. The exhibition helped me understand the different techniques needed to achieve a better result. - Jackson Koch
It was an amazing experience visiting the National Archives, in particular seeing the winning photos from each year. We analysed a few images specifically, looking at the compositional techniques used to enhance the photos. - Finn Whitelock
