At the conclusion of Week 7 the work of Year 12 Photography student Charlie Kimpton was celebrated at the Canberra Museum and Art Gallery student art competition in the Materiality… But Not As We Know It photographic competition for 2024.
Charlie's work won Second Prize, he represented Marist College with pride, and when asked about his work spoke with confidence and passion. Charlie's image Umbrella of Fire was described by the judges panel as visually spectacular, and a great representation of how steel wool can be repurposed for such a unique image.
Congratulations to Charlie for this great success.

Marist Hockey clubmen Elijah MacKinnon (Full Back), Lucas Thearle (Half Back), and Patrick Coffey (Forward) represented the ACT at the Australian School Sport 12 and Under Hockey Championships in Cairns from 19-23 August, under coach and former Hockeyroo, Olympian and Champions Trophy winner Peta MacKinnon.
The team showed composure and resilience beyond their years to overcome extreme heat, torrential rain and tough competition to complete a clean sweep of the tournament, marking the first time the ACT has ever earned an outright victory in the 12 and Under competition.
Elijah, Lucas and Patrick distinguished themselves, Marist, and the Marist Hockey Club over the course of the tournament, also helping to earn the Tournament Fairplay Award for the best and fairest team.
Match results included:
ACT def. Queensland 3:1
ACT def. South Australia 3:0
ACT def. Victoria 1:0
ACT def. New South Wales 2:1
ACT def. Tasmania 14:1
ACT def. Western Australia 3:1
Congratulations!
