More than 122.6 million people have fled their homes worldwide because of conflict or disaster, and that number is rising. That’s why Marist students and staff are taking the Refugee Ration Challenge. We’ll be eating the same rations as a refugee living in Jordan, just a small amount of rice, flour, lentils, chickpeas, beans, fish (or tofu) and oil. Last year we raised $2100 and we expect to do even better in 2025.
The challenge officially takes place 18-20 June, but it can also be completed across any three days before the end of June. If your son would like to participate please contact Mr Ahearne in the Mission Centre or email nathanahearne@mcc.act.edu.au Your son will receive a permission note, ration pack and fundraising webpage.

Junior School Parent Teacher Interviews: Week 19
Parent/Teacher Interviews for the Junior School will be held on Monday 23 June and Tuesday 24 June. Bookings are now open and can be made via the MyMarist Portal. Bookings will close on Friday 20 June at 2:30pm.
Interviews will take place in your son's classroom with his classroom teacher only. At this time, specialist teachers will not be available for interviews, and we ask you to refrain from booking more than one interview. Each interview will be 10 minutes in duration, providing an opportunity to discuss your son’s progress, areas of strength, and future learning goals.
Junior School Semester Reports will be available to parents on Friday 20 June, and we encourage you to review these prior to your interview. During the interview, you will also receive your son’s assessment books, which contain assessment samples from Term 2.
It is important that each family books a time with their son’s Junior School classroom teacher and we thank you in advance for your time.

Marist Senior Quad Heads to Henley After National Championships Success
Marist College Canberra is proud to announce that our senior rowing quad—Harrison Braithwaite, Garvan Hayes, Mitchell Wadie, and Roland Carter—will soon represent both the College and the nation as they depart for the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta in the United Kingdom.
This exceptional crew is one of only five Australian school crews selected to compete at this renowned international event. Among the selected schools is fellow Canberra representative, Canberra Girls Grammar School, making this a proud moment for the ACT rowing community.
Following their outstanding performance at the Australian National Championships held at Lake Barrington, Tasmania—where they secured the national title in the quad scull event—the Marist Senior crew now turns its focus to competing for the Fawley Challenge Cup at the Henley.
The Henley Royal Regatta is one of the most prestigious events on the international rowing calendar, drawing competitive school and club crews from across the globe and held on the historic River Thames at Henley-on-Thames. Our Senior quad is excited to compete in the Fawley Challenge Cup - Junior Open quadruple scull events (coxless).
The boys will spend the coming week in the United Kingdom, undertaking final preparations and acclimatising to local conditions to ensure they are in peak form ahead of racing. Their journey to this point has been marked by commitment, discipline, and an extraordinary level of teamwork.
We extend our sincere thanks to their dedicated coaches, Tom and Cormac Hayes, whose expert guidance, tireless effort, and strategic preparation have been instrumental in shaping the crew’s success. We also acknowledge with gratitude the support of King's College London Boat Club, the Canberra Rowing Club and The Minerals Council of Australia who have played key roles in the team’s Henley campaign. We thank the ongoing support and commitment of Marist College Rowing Club and community.
As Harrison, Garvan, Mitchell, and Roland prepare to test themselves against some of the world’s best young rowers, our Marist College community stands behind them with pride. We wish them every success and enjoyment as they represent us on the international stage.
Livestreaming of the Henley Royal Regatta will be available via the official event website.
Go Marist!

Australian Little League Baseball Championships
Congratulations to Year 6 student Eddie Tunningley, who represented Canberra at the recent Australian Little League Championships in Blacktown, Sydney from 8 -13 June.
The Canberra Rangers had a tough time of it against some high-quality opposition, but the highlight was their gutsy 5-0 win over Melbourne. The Ultimate winners were Brisbane North who will head to the USA to take part in the Little League World Series. It was a great experience for the boys who got to meet some current Australian players and also got to participate in some other activities outside of baseball, like a tour of the GWS Giants high performance centre.
School Sport ACT Cross Country Championships
On Friday 13 June, the School Sport ACT Cross Country Championships were held at Stromlo Forest Park. 18 Senior and 5 Junior boys were selected for the event following their performances in the ASC and Primary South/Weston regional carnivals at the same venue. Whilst each boy represented the College with pride, we had a number of exceptional results.
Cross Country Captain Angus Wall (U18) and Leandro Ballon (U12) both finished in 3rd place. Harvey Hood (U12) and Hamish Scanlan (U14) claimed 2nd place, while Harry Dawn (U15) and Kieran Shepherd (U16) finished 1st in their respective age groups.
Congratulations to all runners selected for the ACT squad who will go on to represent the Territory at the National Championships on the Gold Coast in September.
