Big Brothers Production - Long Tan
Marist College Canberra presents the Big Brothers Production for 2023:
"LONG TAN" by Verity Laughton is a play based on one of the most significant Australian battles of the Vietnam War, where 105 Australian and three New Zealand soldiers fought against 2,500 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops in a mud-filled rubber plantation in South Vietnam.
The battle resulted in 18 Australian deaths and over 245 communist Vietnamese casualties. The play was created through interviews with surviving Australian soldiers, Vietnamese contributors, and family and friends of those who died.
It is both a work about a contentious time and an iconic battle, as well as being a meditation on the fractures in collective memory and the consequences of extreme demands on human beings in military conflict.
Tickets
$20 Adults $15 Concessions, Non-Marist Students $5 Marist Students $50 Family of four
WARNING: This production includes mature themes, simulated and stylised violence, adult language and loud noises. It is not suitable for young people under the age of 14.

Sporting Congratulations
Last week we had a number of students invited to attend the School Sports ACT Excellence in Sports Awards. These awards are presented in recognition of sporting excellence by ACT school students who have competed at a Regional, State, National or International level. The awards are the highest school sporting honour presented to ACT school students and were presented by Minister Yvette Berry on the night.
Two Marist students were recognised with this significant honour. College Captain Michael Paragalli (Year 12) was awarded the School Sport ACT Leadership Award and Ben Callaway (Year 7) received the U12's School Sport ACT All Rounder Award. A huge congratulations to these two students!
ASC Touch Gala Carnival
On Tuesday 14 March, students across Years 8, 10 and 12 competed in the ACT Touch Gala Carnival at Deakin playing fields. Every student played in the Marist spirit of sport and displayed excellent sportsmanship and respect for each other, their competitors, and the officials on the day. Special thanks to the Year 12 students who supported other schools and refereed throughout the Carnival. All three teams participated in hard fought grand finals in their respective age groups. The Year 12 and Year 8 teams were named Premiers and the Year 10 team Runners up.
Good luck to all three teams who will now compete in the ACT Touch Finals Carnival on Tuesday 4 April 2023.
