Marist College Canberra is a congregational Catholic School for boys in Years 4 to 12. Founded in the Marist tradition of St Marcellin Champagnat, our core values derive from our understanding of the gospels and Marist characteristics. The College provides an all-round education for boys working with parents “to create fine young men”.

Enrolments for Year 7 for 2021 are now closed. Applications are still being accepted for all other year groups, and offered subject to availability. Please contact the College’s Registrar for more information.

How to Enrol

As a guide for prospective students and their families, the enrolment process at Marist College Canberra includes, but is not limited, to the following steps:

1. Learn about the College

The College understands that families need to feel confident that Marist College will be able to provide the education that they are seeking for their son. There are many ways that families can learn about the College’s ethos, traditions and opportunities that it offers. These include:

The College Prospectus - a snapshot of our educational philosophy to help you in choosing the best education for your son.

Marist teachers are passionate about creating a learning environment that speaks to the heart, expands the mind, and enriches the life of every boy entrusted to their care. The College’s Strong Minds, Gentle Hearts publication highlights the key areas of support by our teachers in providing quality boys’ education at the College.

Open Morning Tours - an informative morning that allows families to view the facilities, to see the College during a normal school day and to meet with the Headmaster.

Please click here to view an introduction to the College from Headmaster Matthew Hutchison and here to hear what Marist students have to say.

The College Open Day - an annual event where families are welcome to meet with College staff, see the wider range of activities, facilities and programs the College has to offer. This event is usually held prior to the enrolment period commencing.

The Marist College Canberra Facebook Page - to keep up to date with the latest happenings at the College.

For further information, please read the enrolment frequently ask questions, the Enrolment Policy and the Conditions of Enrolment.

2. Apply to Enrol

The College welcomes online enrolment applications throughout the year. Please be aware that applications will not be reviewed until the enrolment period prior to the commencement year. The enrolment period commences in April the year prior to the enrolling year and closes 31 May of the same year. Offers are generally made by the end of June. Late applications will be considered but will be subject to places being available.

Applicants must complete the online Application for Enrolment and pay the required non-refundable Application for Enrolment Fee (as specified in the online form).

The Application for Enrolment requests specific documentation to be provided in order to process your application. If requested documents are not provided then Application for Enrolment cannot be processed for consideration. Such documentation may include the following items:

  • Copy of Birth Certificate
  • If Catholic, Baptism and/or Sacramental Certificates
  • Copy of immunisation statement from ACT Health (Years 4-6 applicants only)
  • Copy of the two most recent full school reports
  • Copy of the most recent NAPLAN results
  • Passport style photo of student
  • If born outside of Australia, a certified copy of visa or naturalisation document
  • Specialist Reports (eg. psychological, speech, individual learning plans etc)
  • Court Orders (if relevant to the applicant)

Applications received are processed by the Registrar. Further information may be requested from an applicant if the Registrar is of the view that such information is needed to assess the application, or if the application is incomplete. The Registrar will provide the processed applications to the Headmaster who will select which applicants will be invited to attend a family interview.

3. Interviews

Applicants who are invited to attend an interview will meet with either the Headmaster or a senior member of the College staff. Please note: applicants do not need to prepare or bring anything to their interview. The College expects the applicant(s) and their parents/carers or guardians to attend the interview. This pertains to both new and existing families of the College.

An interview does not guarantee enrolment to the College and is not an indicator that an offer is being made.

After the interview process has been completed, families will be notified in writing as to the success of their application.

4. Offers, Acceptance and Waitlists

If an offer of enrolment is made, families are required to complete the Offer of Acceptance Form and other relevant documents to finalise the enrolment. This must be received by the College by the date specified in the Offer of Enrolment Letter along with the non-refundable Acceptance of Enrolment fee. In accepting the offer, the College is under the assumption that all parents and legal guardians of the applicant are aware that this application was lodged and any signatory to the Acceptance of Offer accepts responsibility for payment of all fees and charges.

Completed Offer of Acceptance forms not received by the specified date may be withdrawn and the place offered to an applicant on the waitlist.

If the College assesses an applicant suitable for enrolment, but is unable to offer a place due to limited vacancies, the Headmaster, at his discretion, may offer applicants in writing the opportunity to be placed on a waitlist for current year enrolment.

Applicants who are unsuccessful will be notified in writing from the Headmaster's Office.

As per the Marist College Canberra Enrolment Policy, priority consideration is given to:

  1. Boys who are baptised Catholic and currently enrolled in Catholic schools
  2. Boys who are baptised Catholic and currently enrolled in other schools
  3. Boys who are non-Catholic but currently enrolled in Catholic schools
  4. Boys who are non-Catholic and currently enrolled in other schools

Special consideration may also be given to:

  • Siblings of current students at date of application
  • Siblings and children of Old Boys of Marist College Canberra
  • Children with Marist affiliations and interstate transfers from other Marist schools.

Criteria, other than the above, may be used at the discretion of the Headmaster in determining offers and acceptance of enrolment. The College also reserves the right to alter the Enrolment Policy from time to time.

Marist College Canberra accepts students at all year levels where places are available. The main intake years are Year 4, Year 7 and Year 11. The Headmaster has sole discretion over enrolment of students to the College.
