WIN TV visits the Junior School ‘Step Up’ program
There was great excitement last week for the boys of 5T and 6W as WIN TV News cameras captured them working during their respective TAS and Hospitality lessons. The introduction of the ‘Step Up’ program last year, allowing the Junior School boys to experience the facilities and teachers of the Senior School, has been a wonderful success and is enjoyed immensely by the boys. A great advantage of attending Marist is that our younger primary aged students have access to the whole College, both academically as well as through the co-curricular program.
2022 Enrolment Applications
A reminder to all Marist families and those families that you know are wanting to enrol their sons next year that 2022 enrolment applications close this Friday, 28 May. Please ensure your applications have been submitted before the due date so that they can be considered.
NAPLAN
Congratulations to our Year 5 boys and their teachers for completing their NAPLAN assessments over the past two weeks. Thank you to Mrs Hogan and Mrs Croker for organising the Year 5 assessments and ensuring the boys were well prepared. We look forward to the boys’ results later in the year.
Years 4 – 6 Cross Country
Thank you to Mr Keogh for organising and running our Junior School Cross Country Carnival last Friday. It was pleasing that so many parents were also able to assist out on the course. Congratulations to Hartigan House and the age champions on the day.
Champagnat Day 2022
Next Thursday, the College will celebrate Champagnat Day. We will gather as a whole College for Mass to celebrate the great man that Marcellin Champagnat was and the charism that he shared with his early Brothers. Junior School students are required to be in their formal winter uniform for the start of the day and are asked to bring their PE uniform to school, with their house coloured shirt to get changed for our annual Champagnat Games afternoon. Further information will be emailed home to all Junior School families this week.
Pentecost and Confirmation
This weekend we celebrated Pentecost, the feast of the Holy Spirit. The scripture and story of Pentecost is used extensively in our Year 6 Religion program as the boys prepare to make their Confirmation. The boys study the events of Pentecost to further develop their understanding of the Holy Spirit and how it works within us throughout our lives as Catholics. Although, hard to understand at first, the events of Pentecost call us all to live a faith-filled life of love towards others.
Paul articulates it simply in his letter to the Romans, ‘God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us’. The ordinary, day-to-day acts of goodness and kindness, of faithfulness, self-control, patience and gentleness, are all expressions of the Holy Spirit that have been given to us by God and are particularly relevant as the boys prepare for their own Confirmation. We pray that the lessons of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost continue to guide our lives in the coming year, particularly for our Year 6 boys as they prepare and make their own Confirmation.
On behalf of our Year 6 boys, I was able to drop off eight filled crates of non-perishable food to HOME in Queanbeyan over the weekend as a result of their generous Act of Service on their Confirmation Reflection Day. The staff at HOME were most grateful for the boys’ generous contribution to the people that HOME assist.
May St Marcellin continue to watch over our families.
