From the Head of Junior School
Year 5 Camp
Congratulations to our Year 5 boys and their teachers who attended their annual three day camp this week at the Sport and Recreation Centre in Jindabyne. The boys have had a fun few days, challenging themselves and making new connections with their year level peers. Our year level camps in the Junior School incrementally prepare the boys for their more lengthy camps and treks in their senior school years, and allow the boys to develop a greater sense of personal independence in a safe and fun environment.
Junior School Lenten Appeal
The Junior School boys have raised a healthy amount to start our 2021 Lenten Appeal over the past two Fridays. This year, our Lenten funds will again go to support the Chetana Boys’ Hostel in India. The Hostel has been administered by the Marist Brothers since 2010 and provides nutritious food to approximately 65 boys (aged between 9 and 15 years old) and in some cases, simple medical needs. The Hostel also provides classes to prepare the boys in basic subjects such as reading and writing in Bengali and Mathematics.
We look forward to seeing how much the boys can raise for this important project over the next two weeks. This Friday, we are looking forward to seeing all the ‘silly socks’ that the boys will be wearing!
Years 4 and 6 Sacramental Reflection Day
This Friday, the boys will engage in a number of meaningful activities that support our Religious Education program for Term One. The focus of the day is Eucharist for Year 4 and Confirmation for Year 6, and is aimed at developing a deeper understanding of God’s presence in these sacraments. The boys will engage in a number of activities and complete specific tasks.
All Year 4 and Year 6 boys will participate in the day. This Sacramental Reflection Day supports the Religious Education curriculum set by the Diocese and is inclusive of all our Marist boys. Boys planning to make their First Eucharist and Confirmation will still need to attend their Parish Retreat Days and meet other Parish expectations. As part of the school-based curriculum, this Friday will contribute to the boys’ assessment and reporting for Term One in Religious Education.
