From the Junior School Head of Student Wellbeing
I would like to say a special thank you to Mr Matthew Rowland and the Year 4 Teachers for organising and delivering such a wonderful day for our Year 4 boys on Friday 4 August. National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day was celebrated at Marist by participating in Indigenous games and completing Indigenous artwork. A special thank you also must go the Senior students for their help in running the day.

Over the coming weeks, there will be some free webinars, delivered by the eSafety Commissioner, available for parents to ‘attend’ online. Whilst this may interest Junior School parents, there is also some information and webinars more suited to our Senior School parents.

Online Boundaries and Consent
It will cover:
- why the consent conversation is so important to have with primary school aged children
- easy ways to explain online boundaries and consent
- opportunities to discuss and model consent through discussions, scenarios and practicing helpful phrases for saying ‘no.’

7 September: 12.30pm to 1.00pm
Getting the Most Out of Gaming
It will cover:
- when gaming can be beneficial and strategies to promote better in-game experiences
- how to keep children safe online – using safety and privacy settings in games and platforms
- strategies to promote more balanced gaming and how to create smoother transitions from gameplay to other activities
- the key online risks and where to find help for things like bullying and harassment in games.

19 October: 12.30pm to 1.15pm (AEDT)
Getting started with social media: TikTok, YouTube, Instagram
It will cover:
- creating a positive digital identity
- privacy and sharing online
- managing what you see online
- good practices in group chats
- help-seeking.
5 September: 7:30 pm to 8:00 pm
21 November: 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm (AEDT)
There will be similar content presented to our Junior School students later this year, appropriate to their year level.
