Year 9 Footsteps Update
Students participate in Inter-House Geocaching treasure hunt
Last Wednesday, Year 9 students participated in an Inter-House Geocaching treasure hunt in their local area, as part of the Footsteps program.
The aim of the competition was to encourage students to use an online app, follow GPS coordinates, and explore local geographic locations to find hidden caches (objects) across the ACT and surrounding areas.
Geocaching is a game that is played in over 190 countries across the world and there are hundreds of caches hidden in strategic ‘green spaces’ within the ACT. Our boys were able to find over 470 caches during the competition, which was a magnificent effort considering the wet weather and the COVID restrictions in place.
Congratulations to Haydon House for winning the first Footsteps Geocaching Cup and to the students listed below who were recognised for being the ‘Most Valuable Caches’ for each House:
- Conway House - Tomas Sanson
- Crispin House - Lachlan Riley
- Haydon House - Ben Rothenfluh
- Lavalla House - Piet Clayden
- Mark House - Harry Whitelock
- McMahon House – Ronan Ingham and Samuel Wilkie
- Patrick House - Sam Sheedy.
Overall, it was a fantastic day, filled with some great (muddy) memories and the knowledge that despite the complications of schooling in 2021, students can still participate in rewarding activities that engage each boy to realise their academic potential.
